Experiments in Transfer Across Multiple Learning Mechanisms
We present three different learning mechanisms for transferring spatial knowledge from one problem to another, related problem: memorybased transfer, search-based transfer, and transfer using reinforcement learning. We describe the approaches and present preliminary results demonstrating successful transfer using these approaches in Soar and testing them in the Urban Combat Testbed.
متن کاملGeckos as Springs: Mechanics Explain Across-Species Scaling of Adhesion
One of the central controversies regarding the evolution of adhesion concerns how adhesive force scales as animals change in size, either among or within species. A widely held view is that as animals become larger, the primary mechanism that enables them to climb is increasing pad area. However, prior studies show that much of the variation in maximum adhesive force remains unexplained, even w...
متن کاملA review of sex determining mechanisms in geckos (Gekkota: Squamata).
Geckos are a species-rich clade of reptiles possessing diverse sex determining mechanisms. Some species possess genetic sex determination, with both male and female heterogamety, while other species have temperature-dependent sex determination. I compiled information from the literature on the taxonomic distribution of these sex determining mechanisms in geckos. Using phylogenetic data from the...

assert incorrectly that there is a ‘lack of evidence for causal connections between genetic factors, demography, and extinction risk’ [1]. Their entire Letter provides detailed evidence for this point. Unfortunately, their reply largely overlooks our point that the justifications for the 50 and the 500 in the 50/500 rule are fundamentally different. We are in complete agreement with them that t...
متن کاملComing to America: multiple origins of New World geckos.
Geckos in the Western Hemisphere provide an excellent model to study faunal assembly at a continental scale. We generated a time-calibrated phylogeny, including exemplars of all New World gecko genera, to produce a biogeographical scenario for the New World geckos. Patterns of New World gecko origins are consistent with almost every biogeographical scenario utilized by a terrestrial vertebrate ...
